During the early morning hours of Saturday July 25th Deputy Sheriff Darrel Palmer & franklin P.D. Officer Philip King were concealed in an office Inside of M&M Feed & farm Supply in franklin. The business had been burglarized three times since July 7th and the pair was planted inside the business in hopes of the burglar(s) returning to commit another crime.
At approximately 1:26 a.m. they heard the door between the retail store and warehouse being forced open. As the lone suspect entered the business the officers confronted the suspect and ordered him onto the floor.
Arrested and charged w/Burglary of a Building is Kenneth Dwayne Smith b/m 45 y.o.a. of Hearne, Tx. Smith was transported to the Robertson County Jail where he remains in lieu of a $7500 bond. Additional charges are pending.
"This is an excellent example of a joint effort of law enforcement agencies working together". It is also worth noting that this was Franklin Officer Philip Kings first day on the job. He had previously worked approx. 3 1/2 years for the City of Clifton Police Department. Both Deputy Palmer & Officer King are to be commended for their performance to public service.
